A true HC Andersen fairy tale is taking place in Denmarks capital city, Copenhagen, right now.
A goose has been adopted by a swan family.
This spring a goose’s egg landed in a swan’s nest in the park 'Fælledparken' in Copenhagen by mistake.
The egg was hatched with the swan-eggs and the little goose was immediately adopted by the swan family
- It started a couple of months ago, when we saw a swan-couple with four swanlings and a little goose. We have bee following the family ever since and have expirenced how the goose has grown into becoming part of the family, says local resident Theis Bedsted who is a student.
Theis Bedsted and his girlfriend Freja Brix Olsen have been keeping an eye on the family:
- The goose is more adventurous than the swanlings. But there is always a parent who is swimming with it and keeping an eye on it, Freja Brix Olsen says.
But the harmony will be over in in March or February.
- The swans will chase away their swanlings in spring, because they are going to mate again. The goose will be chased away as well, says Knud Flensted, a biologist at The Danish Society of Ornithologists.
